I was determined to try and give everyone a visit to Swinestone Cliff at this event in Silton Forest. Initially, I had high hopes of parking at Thimbleby Clay Shoot cafe. Perhaps with an updated map and Thimbleby Estate's consent we might in future. Instead, I then hoped to park further into the forest ..... but Forestry England didn't like that idea!
Moreover, Forestry England didn't like some of my control sites. I sent them an 'all controls' map in January, but they only let us know about their objections last week. I'm sorry to say that in the rush to make changes in time for a print deadline I overlooked one control description (a pond moved to a boulder) and this omission went unnoticed by three sets of eyes. The leg to that control has been voided on the Green course. My apologies.
Silton is a wonderful forest and quite wild on an average day. Not many people walk there, so the minor paths and most areas are 'brambled' and slow underfoot, making it a challenging orienteering area.
In spite of these issues, I hope you enjoyed at least part of your run!
