Organiser's comments

What a fabulous day was had by over 110 orienteers in Whitby.

Thank you very much to Whitby Sixth Form College for allowing us to share their excellent facilities and to Dave Orton for looking after us so well.

Course planning was by Chris Wright, who managed to give everyone a challenging run through the ginnels.  Judging by the comments from finishers, some route choices were very finely balanced.

The weather was ideal for orienteering, with steady sunshine and a gentle breeze.  We were priveleged as, by contrast, nearby Scarborough suffered grey mist for most of the day.

Thanks to all the orienteers who came to test their navigating skills at the home port of one of history's greatest mappers.  What would Cook have made of the many runners crossing his town clutching the large-scale charts?

My sincere thanks to all the volunteers and officials whose expertise and hours of dedication made this event possible.
