Location:

Parking will be in the Errington Woods public car park.  The grid reference of the entrance to the car park is NZ 617201 and the What3words reference is ///diggers.lazy.irritate.  The nearest postcode is TS11 8EE, but please note that if you put this into your satnav you'll end up at a farm a short distance to the west of Errington Woods.

Click on the link to see a map.  You can zoom in (and, optionally, switch to Satellite mode) to see the details of the final approach to the event.  You can also get directions if you specify your starting location.

If coming from the west, go past the Wilton chemical works and continue on the A174 towards Saltburn.  Turn right (i.e. south) at the roundabout at grid reference NZ 609223 and go up the hill and straight across at a crossroads.  The entrance to the car park is on the left, just before the road takes a sharp right at the top of the hill.

Terrain:

Errington Woods is a well established wood with a substantial path / track network, steep-sided slopes and many varied features.

There are many mountain bike tracks throughout the woods and new ones can appear at short notice, so some may not be mapped.

Benches, carved sculptures and mountain bike jumps are not mapped.

Full leg cover is required.  Apart from anything else, there are many areas of brambles!

This wood is used by many local people from the Marske area.  Please be aware of this during your run and be considerate to other users of the area.  Please be particularly aware of horse riders (some of whom may be children) and mountain bikers.

In the event of inclement weather waterproofs may be made compulsory.  Please come prepared.

Covid-19
and other
respiratory
infections:

Covid 19 and other infections – e.g. influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and adenovirus) continue to circulate at high levels in the community.

Orienteering is an outdoor, naturally socially-distanced sport.  However, although you should be relatively safe when you are out on your run, there is a risk of virus transmission during the pre- and post-run activities.

Please:-

  • Do not attend this event if you have respiratory infection symptoms.
  • Maintain good hand hygiene.
  • Be mindful of other people's space.  Some people may be more concerned than you are about avoiding close contact.
Safety:

A comprehensive risk assessment will have been carried out by the Organiser, but please remember that competitors take part at their own risk.  Orienteering is an adventure sport – your safety while orienteering is your own responsibility.

Please make sure that you download even if you do not complete your course.

CLOK strongly recommends that you carry a whistle while participating in this (and every) orienteering event.

If you have a relevant medical condition, please add this to your competitor details in Racesignup.  Any information provided will be treated in strict confidence and will only be used if you need medical treatment and are unable to communicate at the time.
