Cringle & Cold Moors
on Sunday 12th March 2017

PLEASE NOTE the area is exposed and cagoules may be compulsory if the weather is bad.  Come prepared.

Cringle and Cold Moors are 6 km south of Stokesley.  The event will be signed from the A172 west of Carlton-in-Cleveland village at grid references NZ 499049 and NZ 504052.

Parking will be in a well-drained field at grid reference NZ 523030.  Access to the parking field will be via a gate just beyond the entrance to the Lord Stones cafe car park.

Registration, toilets, finish and the Lord Stone's cafe will be within 100 metres of the parking area.

Terrain: The area is dominated by two steep sided hills – Cringle Moor and Cold Moor – covered with sheep-cropped grass, bracken (should be dead at ths time of year), heather (deep in places) and some mixed woodland.  There are lots of rock features and contour detail.  The area near the finish includes clumps of young trees, several ponds and an intricate network of mown paths.  The map from the previous event can be found here.

This is the qualifying round for CLOK, EBOR and AIRE in the CompassSport Cup (large clubs) and NATO, NN, CLARO and EPOC in the CompassSport Trophy (small clubs).

The following courses are offered as per the latest CompassSport Cup guidelines, combining classes on to the same course where appropriate given the expected entry numbers.

There will also be a free string course near Registration.

Map: 1:10,000 scale.   5m contours.   Updated and geo-referenced by Paul Taylor in 2017.   Brown, Short Brown, and Blue Men / Women courses have A3 maps, other courses have A4 maps.   Maps will be printed on waterproof paper.
Punching system:

SPORTident electronic punching will be used.   All versions of SI card can be used.   Controls will NOT be enabled for touch-free punching, but competitors can still manually punch with the newer SIAC cards.

SI-cards can be hired for £1.   Please look after your hired SI card as there will be a £40 charge if you lose it.


Pre-entries to compete in the CompassSport Cup / Trophy must be made via your club captains who will pass all entry details and payment to CLOK.  Club captains will allocate start times within their own clubs.

CLOK members only:  Please enter via the online entry system on the CLOK web site.  This online system will close at midnight on 24-Feb-2017.

Club pre-entries must be received before midnight on Sunday 26-Feb-2017.

Late entries and entry on the day to CompassSport Cup / Trophy couress will be accepted, subject to a surcharge and only if maps are available (which cannot be guaranteed, so please pre-enter by the closing date!).
Entry on the day only for non-CSC courses (White, Yellow and Light Green).


Seniors:  £10.00   (£2.00 surcharge for non-British Orienteering members)
Juniors / Students (with valid cards):  £4.00
Surcharge for late entry or entry on the day:   £1 per Senior, 50p per Junior / student.


Open 10 a.m. ‑ 12 noon.  Visit the Registration tent if you need to do any of the following:

  • Enter on the day
  • Change any entry details (e.g. SI card number)
  • Collect hired SI card(s)
  • Fill in a form with medical conditions and / or emergency contact details.  (See Safety below.)

If none of these apply you can proceed directly to the start.


10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.        Courses close at 2:30 p.m.

The Start for all courses is 1.5km and 100m climb from Parking / Registration.  The first half of the route to the Start is on a good track.  The second half is on a small path.  Allow 30 minutes.

There will NOT be a clothing dump / transfer.

Start lists with start times for pre-entered competitors will be posted on the CLOK web site in the week before the event.


Course results and team scores will be available on wifi within about 100 metres of Registration – connect to the clokresults network (no password required) and point your browser at

Paper results will also be printed out and displayed periodically.


Toilets.   First Aid at Registration.

There will not be water or juice at the finish – please bring your own drink for after your run.

The recently renovated Lord Stone's Cafe is expected to be open serving food and drinks.

Dogs: Well behaved dogs on leads are allowed in the parking area.  Dogs are not allowed out on the courses.

CLOK strongly recommends that you carry a whistle whilst participating in this (and every) orienteering event.
Dog walkers, horse riders and cyclists may be in the area – please be courteous.
