INTRODUCTION TO SCHOOLS ORIENTEERING IN THE TEES VALLEY |
|
CLOK is big on schools orienteering and forming links between our
orienteering club and local schools. You are welcome to join
us!
So far, we created orienteering maps of a total of 149 schools in the Tees
Valley area. We also run a schools orienteering league, which
comprises seven events on Wednesday afternoons throughout the school year.
These events include courses suitable for years 5 to 11.
There are opportunities to compete in National Schools Events run by the
British Schools Orienteering Association, and we can help schools to
arrange trips to take part in the regular schedule of local, regional and
national orienteering events. Talented orienteers have a chance to
join the North-East Junior Squad and take part in its programme of
training events and trips to interesting orienteering events throughout the
country and beyond. (This year's NEJS programme includes a trip to the
O-Ringen 5-day orienteering festival in Sweden.)
We have organised a total of 31 Teacher/Leader courses for those wishing to
introduce orienteering to school pupils, and we offer orienteering coaching
on school sites.
A schools orienteering newsletter -- the Tchimes Education Supplement -- is
published at the start of each term. This covers current developments
in schools orienteering and the forthcoming schedule of schools orienteering
events. You can get a copy from the Local Authority Sports Development
Teams or download a copy from the main schools orienteering page.
