British Orienteering. The governing body for
orienteering in Britain. The BOF web site contains a variety of
information about orienteering in Britain, including the national
fixtures list, links to event results, links to club web sites, etc.
The North East Orienteering Association. The regional body responsible
for orienteering in the north-east of England. CLOK, NATO and NN are
member clubs of NEOA.
Eborienteers. The orienteering club for the eastern half of North
Yorkshire, including the Vale of York and the southern part of the North
York Moors. One of EBOR's main annual events is the White Rose Weekend
--- a three-day orienteering event that takes place over the August Bank
Holiday weekend.
This web site contains information about orienteering in the Lake
District. There's some truly excellent orienteering terrain in the
Lake District, and it's a comparatively short drive from the NE of England.
The web site of the Trail Cyclists Association (TCA). The TCA is the
National Governing Body for mountain bike orienteering (MBO) in the
UK. Amongst other things the TCA web site contains a comprehensive
list of MBO events.
The Capricorn is a two-day, mountain orienteering event for individual
competitors. Unlike the mountain marathons, you return to the
assembly area at the end of the first day, so you can camp from your car or
stay in B&B overnight.
The Original Mountain Marathon (formerly the Karrimor International Mountain
Marathon). The original classic mountain marathon. A two-day event
during which teams of two have to navigate their way across mountainous terrain,
carrying everything that they need for the overnight camp. Held towards
the end of October each year.
The Lowe Alpine Mountain Marathon. A two-day mountain marathon held
somewhere in Scotland each June. The organiser has a reputation
for playing interesting "mind-games" with the competitors. In the
words of the Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy, "expect the
unexpected". In past events, competitors have been transported to
the start by coach, steam train and ferry.
