SUBJECT:   CLOK event
I've only ever stuck to the Cleveland way path when running or walking over the area before, so it sounds like I maybe had an unrealistic idea of how nice it would be to orienteer on the other bits, although I probably still prefer yomping over heather to contouring. I suppose the map just looks open and yellow and doesn't show the heather.
We recently debated how to show thick heather for our new map for our regional event in May. We were tempted to colour the thick bits mauve, but have stuck with convention and used undergrowth hashing, but then the heather on the Sidlaws doesn't get burned, I presume if you showed the deep heather with green hashings next time you used the map they may have burned that bit so the map then need redoing so it's not worth it.

SUBJECT:   'the top'
Angela - I don't know if you have ever been over 'the top' but my only memory of the area used on Sunday was from an event where we went up through the forest (at that time unfelled) and then of struggling through thigh deep heather for a long long time - and wondering why on earth I was doing such a ridiculous thing. Assuming that the heather has grown rather than shrunk even though the green was on the short side I for one was very glad Chris hadn't sent us 'over the top'. I assume looking at the course that was probably part of the reason for the shorter length.

I enjoyed my blue course, although was a bit disappointed not to be running over the top and onto the next bit of map, not being a fan of contouring. I fancied a copy of the bigger map as well. It was good to be back on the NY moors again, CLOK was my first UK club, about 17 years ago.
Jill Libby did extremely well to get back in under an hour, and put all us younger women to shame.

SUBJECT:   Acorns to oaks
After overshooting control 2 on the Blue by some amount I realised I could never make up time again on essentially a moorland course.  Get planting these acorns so we can have a forest please.

SUBJECT:   Eligibility for NE Champs
Angela, you are eligible for the NE Championships if you belong to a NE club including closed clubs. It does not relate to birth or residence.

SUBJECT:   Length of Green course
The Green course length is correct.
I agree that the differential between the Green and Blue is larger than I would have liked, but without wishing to give too much away, given the constraints of the area and the prevailing weather conditions up to 3 weeeks ago, I have erred on the side of caution for the Green.
I hope you enjoy, whichever course you choose!

SUBJECT:   Green course length
Are the Final Details correct when they say the Green course is just 2.7km long?  It seems a bit short given the length and climb of the Blue course.  Thanks.

SUBJECT:   Acorn
Colin, the plan is that the Acorn will be a spring event, separate from the October Odyssey in the years that CLOK hosts that event.  So you can already ring the date of 13th March 2011 for next year's Acorn event in the wonderful Mulgrave Woods.

Will the NE premium event the October Odyssey be an Acorn October Odyssey in future?

SUBJECT:   Eligibility for NE champs
It would be handy if there is a regional championship to have a link on the event webpage to criteria for eligibility.
I doubt that I'm eligible because I'm resident in Scotland and a member of a Scottish club (and usually way off the pace for titles etc). However both parents were born in Teeside and sometimes that counts and sometimes it doesn't.
In Scotland there is often a last minute argument over who is eligible for what in the various Scottish champs, although this year the main Scottish champs race (as opposed to Scottish score champs, sprint champs etc) has a link to rules and eligibility and having at least 1 Scottish parent does count for the Scottish champs. Clarifying it at the event entry stage would help.
