This is a reply to a guest's comment on Sunday. I take on board that it was written in a 'constructive spirit' so, in the same manner, please read this as an alternative point of view. Incidently, I have no connection with Clok.
I do think that events can be over-organised and I do think that room should be left for people to do stupid things. So
A)Do we really need extra road signs when there is nowhere to turn off? The grid ref. for parking was given in the flyer.
B) If I want to know how far it is to the start, I ask at registration. If I forget to ask, I try to enjoy the anticipation!
C)If I accidently cleared my dibber on the return I would think 'what an idiot' - it wouldn't occur to me to think it should have been placed somewhere else.
F)I have run off a map before and it is very confusing trying to relocate! But it was my own silly error. A wall with a field on the other side is a pretty big clue not to proceed!
Keep smiling!

SUBJECT:   Found items
A Swiss Army knife was found in the parking field.  If anyone has lost one then please contact me on 01642 596970.

SUBJECT:   Juniors
Our child was very dissapointed not to have been offered a string course. They don't need much and the field was big enough. Even the same one as last time would have done.
They did the white course which they enjoyed, but the lines between the controls obscured the path !

On another note I picked up some flyers for March, Arncliffe and Hovingham. Don't CLOK and EBOR talk to each other, cannot one be moved to an alternate date.

Thanks for a fine event in a new area to me.

Please take these comments in the constructive spirit intended:

A) Excellent signing from the main road, but then no conformation signs along the way. Sure, there were no turns off, but it was a looooong way.
B) Not immediately obvious route to start.  No indication of how far either at beginning or en-route.
C) Clear station on the route back from the finish is not a good idea.  It may not have happened today, but I have seen folk get confused enough to punch there after running.
D) Leg planning was very good on the two courses I have seen.
E) No attempt to move control lines, or break circles - this made some TD3 controls much harder for a novice, unaware that there was an available line features to lead them in.
F) A control right on the west edge of the map. OK so there was a wall boundary, but there is room to show the field beyond as is done on other edges. Best not to have controls that near the edge though.
G) (cheap remark I know) by the way it is HM StationEry Office

I do understand that this was a relatively low-key event, but some of these points are very easy to fix, and may encourage newcomers to return for the next event.  I did enjoy it and fully understand the effort required - perhaps having a novice in tow at the moment makes me much more aware of the things that potentially loses their interest!

SUBJECT:   Things
Well done for getting the results on the web so quickly!
Good course, wish I could say the same about the map (I made it!). Running a course made me realise that it needs a bit of an overhaul in respect of the vegetation - wind damage and generation of holly, young trees, gorse and perhaps some brambles. I nearly mapped a subaru that we thought might have been there at the next event!
Now more about the parking. We did our best to keep everybody on solid ground but some were unfortunate enough to prove that '4-wheel drive' does not mean 'off-road'.
